Established in 1982, the American Payroll Association (APA), headquartered in San Antonio, TX, is the nation's leader in payroll education, training, and publications. The nonprofit association conducts more than 300 payroll education conferences and seminars across the country each year and publishes a complete library of resource texts and newsletters. Every year, nearly 18,000 professionals attend APA training sessions. Representing over 22,000 members, APA is the industry's highly respected, collective voice in Washington, DC.

The South Carolina Chapter of the American Payroll Association (SCAPA) was founded in November, 1987, and has enjoyed a continually growing membership since that time. Currently the chapter has 140 members.

The chapter and several individual members have won awards and been recognized by the American Payroll Association for involvement in National Payroll Week, National Congress Activities, Speaker Bureaus, National Hotline, Donald Sharper Award, Meritorious Service Award and Board of Advisors.

Members of SCAPA administer payrolls ranging in size from 20 to over 20,000 employees, representing many types of private businesses and governmental organizations. Chapter meetings are scheduled across the State on the third Thursday of every even month. Meetings focus on a variety of payroll related topics. Personal and Professional development is also emphasized.

The chapter offers an annual CPP training course that qualifies for RCH credits. Each year the chapter honors a Payroll Professional of the Year. The South Carolina Chapter co-sponsors with the North Carolina and Charlotte Chapters the Annual Carolinas Payroll Conference held each November in Myrtle Beach, SC .
