SIX REASONS TO ATTEND
Virginia McGrady, CPP
1.
GET INFORMTION FROM EXPERTS ON TOPICS
THAT EFFECTS YOUR WORK
The
payroll professional is required to comply with a vast array of governmental
regulations. These regulations come from
the federal, state, and local levels. At
conference you have an opportunity to attend classes on many different topics,
including Payroll Specialties, Wage and Hour Laws, Benefits and Compensation,
Government Affairs, Technology Issues, Personnel Management, Organization and
Personal Improvement.
2.
GET PRACTICAL IDEAS TO USE AS SOON AS
YOU RETURN TO WORK
Most
workshops and classes are small enough for the attendees to interact with the
presenters. Therefore, you can ask questions, get answers and instructions for your individuals
needs. When you return to work, you
will have ideas, instructions, and information to use and share that day.
3.
MEET VENDORS THAT CAN PROVIDE
INFORMATION ON PRODUCTS AND SERVICES FOR YOUR PAYROLL AND OTHER DEPARTMENTS
Some
vendor representatives will do demonstrations of their wares for you; others
will set appointments to come to your organization. You can ask about the latest equipment,
improved software, and other products and services to meet your needs and make
your job easier. These products could
possibly provide savings to your employer in money, time and/or personnel. Most vendors have give-a-ways. You could collect enough pens and pencils to
last the next year and/or win a great prize.
4.
NETWORK WITH PAYROLL COLLEAGUES
You
will gain valuable connections with experts in payroll and related fields. You could have conversations with others
that have the same or similar problems as you.
There will be opportunities to share your problems and find possible
solutions, as well as sharing your solutions for someone else’s problems. You can build a professional relationship
with peers, the workshop presenters and speakers. You could meet representatives from the IRS,
Social Security Administration, and other governmental agencies. This could be an occasion to get a mentor
and/or to become one.
5.
BUILD ENTHUSIASM FOR YOUR POSITION
Renew
your energy and enthusiasm for your work.
You will be eager to return to work with the knowledge gained by attending
the Carolinas Payroll Conference. Using
information received in from workshops specially designed for your needs, you
will be able to tackle the everyday tasks of your position with ease. You will
also be able to share this information with management and subordinates.
6.
PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ENRICHMENT
Certified
Payroll Professionals (CPP’s), the Fundamentals of Payroll Certification
(FPC’s), and other professionals will receive approximately 14 recertification
credit hours (RCH). If you are preparing
to sit for an exam, the workshops and sessions will provide useful
instructions. Other classes will relate
to time management, improving your speaking, writing, and/or negotiating
skills. You may learn how to recognize
and take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves.
Any one of these
would be reason enough to attend but all together it would be hard to find a
reason not to go. Share this list with
your supervisor to get approval to attend the 2007 Carolinas Payroll Conference,
November 7 – 10, 2007.
